The Study Rooms, Macmillan Education and NILE are now working together to bring high-quality teacher development programmes to language teachers throughout Greece. This exciting partnership will be launched with a series of teacher development events led by NILE Senior Trainer, Maria Heron, in November 2016.
Event 1: All-day workshop (5 hours) – Friday 11th November
“Creativity in the 21st century”
This 5-hour workshop will start with a consideration of the changes in teaching and learning that have occurred in the last 20 years regarding learners, methods, beliefs and resources and the way these changes impact on our everyday teaching. The participants will explore what it takes to become a 21st century creative teacher and will then try out and discuss a number of activities suitable for teenagers and adults that relate back to the changes discussed. The activities will focus on developing students’ critical thinking skills, problem solving skills and the use of digital devices. There will also be a focus on using creativity in the classroom in order to make classroom activities more inspiring and effective.
Participants will receive a certificate of successful completion from NILE, Macmillan and The Study Rooms.
Price: €45 per participant including all materials and certification
Event 2: Weekend workshop – Saturday 12th / Sunday 13th November
“Contemporary approaches to teaching the four skills”
This 12-hour workshop will focus on activities, techniques and approaches to developing language learners’ skills in Speaking, Listening, Reading and Writing, with a three-hour workshop dedicated to each skill. The practical, hands-on workshop will equip teachers with ideas, materials and activities for immediate application in their own contexts, with a focus on teenage and adult learners of English.
Participants will receive a certificate of successful completion from NILE, Macmillan and The Study Rooms.
Price: €80 per participant including all materials and certification
Event 3: All-day workshop (5 hours) – Monday 14th November
“Using authentic materials & engaging tasks”
This 5-hour workshop will focus on using authentic listening and reading texts with engaging tasks. It will start out with a consideration of the value of using authentic materials in the classroom and whether materials should make an impact and have a notable effect on our learners. This practical workshop will equip teachers with listening and reading materials aimed at teenagers and adults. The participants will try out a variety of tasks designed to develop critical thinking and enable learners to use higher order cognitive skills. The participants will evaluate the texts and tasks and will have the chance to design tasks themselves.
Participants will receive a certificate of successful completion from NILE, Macmillan and The Study Rooms on attending the workshop.
Suggested price: €45 per participant including all materials and certification
